A trip to the Coromandel isn’t complete without visiting famous Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach. Tours depart Coromandel Town and are flexible to suit tide times.
This tour is a loop trip crossing from one side of the Coromandel Peninsula to the other via the 309 Road – a marvelous adventure on an unsealed road which returns to Coromandel Town on sealed State Highway 25. Stops are made at The Waterworks, an interactive fun park where water powers many of the park’s wimsical waterpowered gadgets. Nature lovers will enjoy the next stop at 309 Kauris to view incredible stands of New Zealand’s largest growing native tree.
On reaching the east coast of the peninsula the group will lunch at Coghill Café (at own expense) – a local favourite – depending on tides the following options are available:
- If the tide is low then the tour will visit Hot Water Beach where it is possible to dig your own hot pool in the sand and then continue to Cathedral Cove where passengers will be given the choice of a one hour return walk down to Cathedral Cove – well worth the effort.
- If the tides aren’t right then the tour will continue on to the beachside resort town of Whitianga for a chance to look around the town, take a visit to the local museum or do an alternative 2 hour glass bottom boat tour (extra cost). OR visit the Lost Springs the Coromandel's own hot springs and spa resort. www.thelostsprings.co.nz
- An alternative would also be a visit to Combat Zone for a 15 minute scenic or exciting Argo ride (depending on group). www.combatzone.co.nz
